One Street was founded in September 2007 by Sue Knaup, long-time bicycle advocate at the local, national and international levels. Through her 30 years of advocacy work including other sectors such as animal rights, environment and special populations, Sue came to understand the vital importance of ethical behavior in organizations.
 In September 2007, seeking to form an international organization that could lift bicycling to the forefront of society around the world, Sue founded One Street with the simple objective of guiding leaders of such organizations onto the most effective and ethical course for increasing bicycling. Her outreach to advisors around the world to gauge their interest and tap their experience for forming such an organization resulted in overwhelming support and enthusiasm for such an organization. These advisors ranged from leaders of large and small non-profits and government agencies to corporate CEOs.
One Street’s name comes from an idea Sue had at the age of six on a family trip when she realized that the street connected to other streets and, if the world is round, never ends.
This concept is at the heart of all of One Street’s efforts, the simple idea that our actions affect and can help others around the world. This guides our development as an international organization and is at the core of our support and coaching of organization leaders to show them the far reaching impact of their actions. We also use it to show leaders that sharing their successes and experience with other leaders halfway around the world is as easy and gratifying as helping your neighbor.
