Social Bike Business in Uganda
Ride 4 a Woman
Ride 4 a Women is a budding nonprofit organization that serves women who live near Bwindi National Park in southern Uganda. Their vision includes a community center that will offer these women childcare services and job training to help them find better jobs.
They have embraced One Street's Social Bike Business program opportunities and are including high-standard bicycle repair stations in the design of their community center that will serve their bicycle job training workshops for the women. Also, one of their main income sources will be renting bicycles to tourists.
In these photos, the women are teaching each other bicycle repair and riding skills in early 2011. Below they are clearing brush during the ground breaking ceremony for their community center at the end of June 2010. With very little funding, they are relying on such hardworking volunteer workers as well as expert architects and designers to move the construction forward.
Find out more about their plans and ways you can help them on their website: www.ride4awoman.org and in their brochure frontside & brochure backside .
If you would like to contact them to donate directly or even arrange to rent a bike during your visit to Uganda, visit their website or email them at info{at}ride4awoman.org.
